“…a fascinating account of the significant contributions of the 46th/72nd Reconnaissance Squadron during those critical early days of the Cold War.” - General Colin Powell Former Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff |
World in Peril contains the story of the 46th/72nd Reconnaissance Squadron and “Project Nanook”, as told by the unit’s commander, Major Maynard E. White, to the author — his son– Ken White. Using recently declassified records as well as personal reminiscences, the book chronicles the historical exploits of the little-known but well-accomplished unit that developed the grid system of navigation which opened up the arctic skies to world aviation– an achievement cited as one of the ten greatest accomplishments of the United States within the last fifty years– and explores the scientific contributions made by the squadron, which provide the reader with a glimpse of future geological events that will reshape our planet and have a profound effect on our global society. |
